document.getElementById('clientDiv').innerHTML='
Enterkin House - Bothy

Newspaper review published by The Herald on "The Bothy" that Interior Ideas designed as a romantic hideaway for Enterkine House Hotel, Ayrshire.
<img src="images/clients/enterkin1.jpg" alt="Shed Heaven" onclick=showPic("clients/enterkin1") />
Shed Heaven

Escaping to a little wooden house appeals to the child in all of us, evocative of a time when lifes biggest challenges involved building gang huts and climbing trees – our first private retreats. Recently the folks at Ayrshires five star Enterkine House Hotel cottoned on to the charm of offering breaks in a small but perfectly formed wooden "bothy" – so it built one on its grounds. Like a real life fairytale the hotel didnt have to look far from its doorstep to find an imaginative company to bring its plans to fruition.

"The Bothy Lodge Company in Ayrshire designs the lodges" explains Angela Tremble, Enterkines sales and marketing manager. The man behind the lodges, John Harris, specialised in tree houses for years, but many people who enquired about the latter simply didnt have a suitable tree in which to perch one. That is what inspired Harris to launch Bothy Lodges in February 2007.

Enterkine, already a popular weekend break destination by Annbank, has only size bedrooms, so it quickly recognised the bothy as a means of expanding accommodation without touching the original house.
<img src="images/clients/enterkin2.jpg" alt="Shed Heaven" onclick=showPic("clients/enterkin2") />
Bothy structures are built on sub frames, but planning is strictly about proximity to trees and potential root damage. A building warrant is also required and Enterkines bothy (which they have christened Woodland Lodge) arrived over a year after Tremble first viewed Harris concept bothy at the end of 2005. It should take five days for the bothy to be assembled on site, with interior complete, but Tremble admits they had a few snagging problems.

"We were the first hotel in the UK to build one" she says, "so it was a learning curve for all of us". Tucked discreetly amidst woodland, opposite the hotel, but within hailing distance of reception, the lodges sloping exterior walls utilise Thermowood, a heat treated timber with moisture resistant qualities. The roof comprises durable Canadian cedar shingle tiles with solid copper facings, materials that blend with the natural setting.

The oversized door creates an illusion of a tiny space, an effect enhanced by small windows. Internally the space is larger than implied and its clearly possible to cram a load of luxury into the 25 square metre. But the lodges come in various sizes the largest having kitchens well suited to self catering.

With dining available at hand in the hotel, Enterkines General Manager, Louis MacCallum, chose a romantically inclined lodge comprising just a bedroom and shower room. Walnut veneers enrich wall surfaces and thick cream carpeting has a similar effect on the floor. The small "hallway" provides space for offloading shoes and coats. A drape is then swept back to reveal the bedroom, a division that promotes a sense of space. There is something to admire at every turn and unless you had a privileged childhood, you first "gang hut" was rather basic by comparison.

The Bothy Lodge Company does provide interior packages, but Enterkine created their own. "The luxurious mood is similar to that of the concept bothy" explains Tremble, "but Louis had his own ideas and used local suppliers to individualise this space."

The colours of duck egg blue and cream were chosen to complement the hotel. Prestwick based Interior Ideas sourced the curtain fabric and the wall covering, behind the bed head, and the French boudoir style chandelier is from Litecraft in Glasgow. Luxury continues in the shower room, with its sizeable Grohe shower and contemporary fixtures and fittings that would hold up in any five-star venue. Theres plenty of custom made cabinetry for storage space, and there is a desk for those who cant leave work behind.

Two chairs sit next to the window, through which the view of the surrounding woodland creates a sense of cosy protection. The plasma television can move to face the bed or seats when not folded away, and a DVD and stereo ensures there is plenty to keep guests amused. Heating is provided by a thermostatically controlled under floor systems, and the windows absorb solar energy.

Guests rave about the peace the bothy offers, separate from the hotel, yet close enough to feel part of the action. Diners are taken in the hotel, although breakfast can be served in the Woodland Lodge. On the strength of the initial success, Enterkine are set to build a second lodge before long.
';
